Roberta's Blog for Shrimp

This is a wonderful menu to serve during the dark dreary days of fall and winter.  The simple stir-fry is a much healthier alternative to take-out, and easy to pull together at the last minute.  A trip to your local China-town or dollar store will provide you with many of the items needed to set an authentic table.  Throw black, red and white in with a mix of blue and white china, add chop-sticks and you’re good to go!

Spicy food always poses a challenge for wine-paring.  I selected a late harvest Gewurtztraminer from Alsace (Pierre Sparr) to bring out the subtle sweetness of the shrimp, and lift the ginger, sesame and soy.

As an alternative, go completely authentic and serve Tsingtao beer – China’s beer of choice, and readily available in the LCBO.
